George Carter

Who is George?

My name is George Carter and I am now living in County Durham.  I have enjoyed a great career in finance which began in the UK as a consulting actuary, and then took me to New Zealand where I had roles as an investment consultant, Head of Distribution and then Managing Director within the financial services industry.

Outside of paid work, I’ve been involved in our local church and community centre and refereed rugby union for the past 10 years.

Why do you want to be an MP?

The desire to become an MP has its origins entirely with God.  I am naturally a private and quiet person, and I confess to having reservations about the spotlight which comes with public service.  However, I do have a strong desire to serve, and m
y desire is to unashamedly and wholeheartedly as a Christian, a Northerner, an Englishman and proud Brit offer myself in service to this country and her people.

Being born in Yorkshire it’s not hard to be proud of being a northerner, and the first 32 years of my life were spent growing up, being educated, studying at university and having early married life in the north of England.  A truly magnificent place whose people and landscape I love deeply.  But this narrower focus fits into a broader love and pleasure in the wider UK of which I am so proud to be a citizen.  With ancestry from the south of England, Wales and Scotland I also gain much joy and satisfaction from the traditions, history and pride which is evident in all parts of this great nation we call the UK.

What do you believe?

I am a committed Christian (though of no particular denomination), and have written a short article setting out some of the key ways in which my Christian faith influences and shapes how I see the world, and how this affects my approach to political issues.

I am a member of the Conservative Party, but have many sympathies with strongly held views from other parties.  I like the ‘kingdom before tribe’ phrase used by Christians in Politics.
